I can not find the right John Schmidt in the artist databases, or, at the least the ones listed do not appear to be the same artist of this work. The 'seal' is an embossed mark on the paper; it would have been there on the blank page before the artist put pencil to paper.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

signed J. Schmidt lower right; signed and titled "john Schmidt" verso
