Acrylic on canvas 36" x 36" x 1.5"
No previous owners, bought from artist
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be an abstract painting by Karen Lesniak, a self-taught artist from Reading, PA. There is some artistic merit to her painting, she handles the shades of red very well with some nice contrasting splashes of turquoise colour. None of her paintings were offered or sold at auction. My estimate is based on similar paintings by lesser known artists offered or sold at auction. "Asking Prices" by the artist would naturally be higher than an estimate for the secondary auction market.
I am sorry to hear you are disappointed. But the estimate given is that of the secondary art market, not the gallery price you paid. She really needs to get listed on artprice.com and other listings to establish herself a "market value". Her sales of paintings have to be public. I am sure there is a good potential in her work, but without any auction results the estimate has to be low. You can change that by buying her paintings at auctions.
Why would I be looking for a secondary market evaluation? This is for retail replacement value! This is what I would pay for it brand new full retail price!
Retail prices differ considerably, e.g. the retail price on High Street East-Berlin, PA will be lower than the one asked for on Fifth Avenue, New York. I can base the estimate only on auction results for similar paintings by lesser known self-taught artists sold at auction. The price you paid is absolutely justified, as you bought directly from the artist.
You still don’t get it! This is an insurance claim! I am looking for in a valuation that would show what I would pay the artist initially! I’m not looking for a secondary auction type of value. If your service will not provide this accurate value I will seek it elsewhere and will not refer anybody to your service. He did not ask the proper questions to know this in your initial valuation I assume!?
Your value is way low! I paid $800 in Karen’s work is much more profound and your $100-$300 value indicate! I’m very disappointed with your service!
