This doll was given to my mom when she was 4(1937). She was brought home from Germany during by her dad. It is in great condition. Her body (arms and legs) are just a little soiled but she has all original clothing including shoes, socks, and underware. Her hair is human and her body is believed to be stuffed with reindeer fur. There are no chips or cracks in her face. There has only been one owner, my mom. She would even let us play with her when we were children. I am not sure if her manufacture date. There is a red number stamped in her foot but I do t know if this represents a date
She’s about 19 inches. Narrow hip.
Hi Karen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Kathe Kruse dolls have been popular since the beginning of the 20th Century, notably for their small-batch charm and personalities.
Typically the number on the bottom of the foot is that of its age but while I can make out what it says, it doesn't make sense in the typical date context.
Despite not being able to zero in on a date, this doll is in very good condition and appears to retain its original clothing, which is very important to collectors. Most other KK dolls of this size and relative vintage have recently sold at doll auctions for between $1,000-1,500.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A near antique Kathe Kruse pre-war bisque and fabric doll
made in Germany, late 1930s
The girl doll with red/orange head covering, hand-painted bisque face and cloth body stuffed (possibly with fur), wearing her original linen chemise, orange and brown printed dress and linen apron, linen socks and (possibly suede) shoes. Left foot marked "Kathe Kruse / 01/Zi/10226"; right foot marked 9667 / 412 / Zi"
19 inches high
CONDITION: This doll appears to be in original condition with wear and some handling patina (soiling) commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$1,000-1,500*
