Keluarga Nelayan (Fisherman Family)
A small fisherman family having a quite morning picnic at the beach. An oil on canvas painting dated in 1970 by Hendra Gunawan , an Indonesian artist, from Bandung.The painting was done while he was under political confinement in Bandung, this explains why the paint quality was not so good. The size is 140cmx 100cm.
The painting was acquire from one Artist and dealer from Bandung in mid 2016, Mr Herru Prayogo, who happens to be the grandson of Hendra. To ensure further authenticity of this painting i obtained a letter from a surviving son of Hendra , Mr Tresna which states that the painting indeed is by Hendra and that it is registered in the Hendras painting regiter kept by the Hendra Family. The painting is in good condition but look slightly worn out in certain part dur to its age.

This is a delightful painting by Hendra Gunawan! The composition is beautifully lyrical and the patterns and textures compliment one another so well.
Like my previous evaluations for you I am going to stay very, very conservative in my evaluation. There are some pieces by this artist which are cresting the $200K to $300K mark, it is quite possible that this example could be considered within that range because of similarities in the dense composition and date of completion, however, it is more common for pieces of this size and composition to hover in the $120,000USD to $150,000USD.
