The presented object appears to be a Kentucky flintlock rifle with a 38" barrel and a 36 caliber. The rifle has a wonderful dark tiger striped stock, brass patch box, and furniture, a crescent moon inlay in silver in the stock, and is decorated with reluctant floral engravings. Neither the lock nor the barrel is hallmarked or has proof marks. It is assigned to the German-born gunsmith Jacob Dickert (1740 – 1822). The high-quality rifles of Dickert are usually signed or engraved. The very long and elegant design of this rifle and the dipping line of the buttstock is a hint for a dating in the middle and third quarter of the 18th century where we have other rifles by Dickert which are not signed. The silver inlay and the high quality of the lock are congruent with other comparable by Dickert. Sadly this means that this rifle is still just attributed to Dickert.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 1.500 to 3.000 USD.
