This chair we purchased in 1998 in Denver Colorado. At the time we were told by the antique store it was "vintage" but little was known about it. We had it appraised in person in 1998 prior to buying it, so we know what the value was then. We would like to know the value today. It is a rather large chair. It stands 54" high, 34" deep and 26" wide. The seat bottom is 25" deep and the back of the seat is 36" high, it’s big. So, I'm 6'8" and it fits me like it was made for someone my size. I believe the wood is hard maple. It is real leather (woven) all of it, the seat, back, sides and back of the back. There are no maker marks other than a "20" written on the fabric under the seat. The seat is soft and is padded. The back is firm. The leather is in excellent condition, it's soft and supple and not brittle. The wood is in great condition with very little to no wear showing. We have had it for the 23 years and have only used it on rare occasions.

Hi Brian,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I suspect the appraisal you acquired in 1998 might have been for insurance purposes; the appraisal values Mearto assigns are fair-market, for auction purposes, which are always lower than insurance values.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A large vintage Regency style leather-woven maple open armchair
Probably English or Colonial, early 20th Century
With tall rectangular back rounded at the top, scrolling arms raised on cylindrical supports, trapezoidal seat, all raised on four cylindrical turned and tapering legs.
54 inches high, 26 inches wide, 34 inches deep
CONDITION: appears to be in excellent condition
PROVENANCE: acquired from a gallery/dealer
$1,000-1,500*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
