Sword
It is a Reading Commander Sword Presented to GRIMES, JAMES WILSON, a Senator from Iowa
Dear Kirk,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a masonic templar sword. The sword has a steel blade and a probably gilded bronze part like the guard. Additionally, we have enameled decor and the blade has the etched inscription "GRIMES, JAMES WILSON". Such swords are quite often on the market but this piece indicated trough it's quality a higher rank as a commander. Also, the name which can be identified as a Senator of Iowa higher the estimate.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 600 to 1200 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
