This is a print made from a steel engraving. The words under the picture are “La Madonna de s. Sisto di”Rafaelle. In the lower left hand corner the words are “Rafaelle Lanzio”. Other words include “Filippo Tosetti”. The print is 27 by 33 inches. Both the print and the frame are in good condition. My understanding is that it was purchased in Italy by one of my relatives sometime in the 1800’s. It weighs about 15 pounds.

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a stipple engraving by Filippo Tosetti ( 1780- after 1810). Tosetti was a pupil of Pietro Bettelini and is known to have worked for Thorvaldsen. The print in your possession is an engraving after Raphael´s Sistine Madonna which the artist might have seen in Dresden or he copied after a copy of the painting. The estimate is based on similar religious prints offered or sold at auction. There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the item.
