This is a picture/print (?) titled "La Vierge", which is 5 1/4 w, 6 3/4 h and nicely displayed in a 15" w, 17" h frame. At the bottom right, there are markings "Hel. Braun Cie"; at the bottom left there are markings "F.F. Lippi Pinxt"; on the top right there are markings "41307 BIS".
The labels on the back read A. Dunn as the company that framed this item, so it was likely framed in the 50's or 60's based on the phone number; and it was purchased by my Dad from Turner Art Gallery in Denver on 8/13/1999
Hello George,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be a heliogravure after a painting by Filippo Lippi (Italian, 1406 - 1469) titled "The Virgin." The print was published by Braun & Cie. The notation "Hél" to the lower right margin indicates the print type as heliogravure, which is a photomechanical intaglio reproduction. These prints were very popular during the early to mid 20th century.
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of this work and other comparable photomechanical reproductions after paintings by Lippi, dating to the 20th century. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
