Large Asian Rug
20 October 2022
Description

Was given this rug from from a family member. We put it on our porch to open up and air out it is in very beautiful condition. From what research I have done and my son-in-law told me the carpet was very expensive. Sending a few Photos. The tassels were stitched in with the carpet and the edges on the side are hard. A carpet is a 10' by 14'. Extremely heavy. Any information would be grateful.

Dimensions

Provenance

My son-in-law was giving this carpet from his his boss. His boss Expressed to him that the carpet was very old and valuable. My son-in-law has stored it in a shop for 5 years and just recently moved to another state and gave me the carpet to me.. I'm not sure of the history.

What does this mean?

Hello Vickey,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Oriental Indian Rug. The piece dates back to the period between 1970-1990. The piece is entirely florally decorated with contemporary patterns. The piece appears to be influenced by the Turkish Oushak Rugs slightly. The colour palette used on the piece is a quite pale and contemporary palette, likely for the piece to fit in a modern interior. The piece has large scale flowers as main decorative elements, although it is centrally decorated this decoration is not sealed with an enlarged medallion. The piece is knottedwool on cotton. The knot density of the piece is average but since the piece's pile is not very thick the motifs are rendered somwhat clearly. The piece'S central area was knotted on a beige base while the borders were decorated on a red base. The piece is not basedon any traditional pattern. The piece is in good condition without visible problems, small signs of use and age.

Entirely hand knotted.

Dimensions: 14 Feet by 10 Feet

Condition: The piece is in good condition without visible problems, small signs of use and age.

Provenance: Customer's son-in-law received this from his boss and later was given to the customer.

Heavily decorated by contemporary oriental patterns.

700-1000$.
