40inx28in copper tray
Unknown
Good afternoon, Jenny,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The Arabic script is not one I'm familiar with - do you mind if I forward a photograph of the inscription to an Arabic scholar for an exact translation? It may identify the age and maker of this tray, which may impact its value and I'd prefer to know that before I appraise this.
Thanks to let me know!
Delia
Thanks, Jenny, and good morning,
The inscription reads "Mahdi Hafiz Isfahani"; Mahdi Hafiz was the maker, from the Iranian (formerly Persian) city of Isfahan. Not entirely sure about the date but most likely 19th century.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A Persian copper oval tray
made by Mahdi Hafiz, Isfahan, Persia (now Iran), probably 19th Century
With undulating scalloped rim, centering a field densely incised with figures and animals, signed in Arabic script "Mahdi Hafiz Isfahani"
CONDITION: some losses to finish but otherwise in good condition
$100-150*
