No idea who made it. Large wooden gold painted frame with wooden back and nails holding it in. Can’t find a signature on it.
26 inches by 30 inches.
Dear Jason Sperber,
Thank you for the appraisal submission. The work is a Continental School landscape oil painting on canvas. The composition depicts a small mountain valley village with two figures washing clothes and fabrics by the water. It appears to be unsigned. From the images provided, the work appears to be in poor condition. There is significant cracking throughout the surface, as well as signs of retouching. The limited discoloration of the verso of the canvas suggests this work to be of the 20th century. There are no signs of relining in the images. In frame, the work measures 26 x 30 inches.
Without an artistic attribution, the Fair Market Value is estimated based on sales trends of similar styles and compositions. In style and composition, the work appears to be similar to 19th century Continental landscape paintings, but the work's age suggest this work to be an imitation of these styles, rather than being contemporary. Nor is the work a copy painting. The overall quality of the painting must also be noted to be poor, especially visible in the treatment of the figures. Considering these factors and sales trends, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this painting between $0 and $200.
Thank you again for the submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
