Can someone help identify/value this Bear? It has a center seem, hump on the upper back, jointed, has unreadable ear button. 12” Tall with shaved nose. Hard black eyes. Also has crunch noise when pinched, both body and head. Thank you!

Hi Robert,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An early antique Steiff mohair articulated teddy bear
Made in Germany, 1900-1920
The brown bear with glass eyes, ear button, articulating rods and with an internal (non-working) growler
12 inches long
CONDITION: with wear and losses to fur, shaved nose
PROVENANCE: inherited
$300-500*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
Thanks Robert! The growlers were sometimes moved around, or were inserted in slightly different places. Most of them don't work anymore; the bears with working growlers are usually in less worn condition than yours and bring substantially higher prices (typically low 4 figures).
Hello
I definitely can feel some type of rods in the legs. There is a very small hard spot on the abdomen which I think is the growl element that you explain
It does not work. Although it’s not really in the abdomen, but in the chest so I am not sure
