It is in great condition! We do not know the artist or title, it seems to be on some type of animal skin possibly.
Dear Brian Berkowitz,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work appears to be an oil painting on canvas. Based on the photographs provided, the frayed linen edges of the canvas are visible with no apparent signs of an animal skin ground. There are significant accretions to the surface, and stretcher marks and loss to the margins. The painting depicts a market scene, possibly Peruvian. It signed illegibly to the lower left with a partially legible date of the late 1980s. The measurements were not provided.
Due to the illegible signature, and a lack of signature matches to listed artists, the attribution of this work is impossible. It is also uncertain whether this particular painting is regional or by a traveling artist. There are multiple paintings of Peruvian market scenes on the art market, but without an artistic attribution the value estimate of this particular work will be more ambiguous. Comparisons may only be pulled from works with similar compositions and dates. Based on these, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $0 and $200.
Thank you for your appraisal submission. If you have any questions about this report, please leave a comment in the comment box below.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
