Hi Melodie,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
A laúd (pronounced lah-OOD) is a plucked string instrument belonging to the lute family. It is primarily associated with Spanish and Latin American folk music, and it has distinctive features and cultural significance.
The label "Salvador Ibáñez, Bajada de San Francisco 23, Valencia, España" indicates that the instrument was crafted by Salvador Ibáñez y Albiñana, a renowned Spanish luthier active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in 1854, Salvador Ibáñez began his luthiery career in 1865. He initially operated from Calle Muela, 23 in Valencia but relocated to Bajada de San Francisco 23 in 1897, where he continued his work until his death in 1920.
While refurbished Ibáñez-made Lauds that have been - or are currently offered - for sale have sold for between $1,500 and $2,000, an unrefurbished example would be unlikely to bring that much at auction - probably closer to $700-1,000.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
