Painting of symbolic skeletons of fish which is symbolic of over fishing in the seas surrounding Indonesian islands. It is done in abtract form in oil over canvas and the artist is Affandi a well known Indonesian artist .The painting was done in 1980 and the siize is 120cmx120cm.
The painting was given by Affandi to a friend in Jogjakarta Indonesia in mid 1980s. I bought it in mid 2017 from the original owner thru Herru Prayogo an artist and dealer in Bandung Indonesia.
This is a vintage work from 1980 by the Indonesian artist Kusama Affandi (1907-1990) that is entitled Laut Tandus. Laut Tandis or 'Over Fishing' is a statement on poverty and struggle in his native world which was a consistent theme in his works. His painting style is expressionistic and he was part of the Lima Bandung artisan group in the 1930s and went on to establish several artist's groups and schools throughout his life and career. This is a large sale size painting at 120cm x 120cm. This estimate is based on the assumption that the work is indeed an original and not a reproduction, the work has not been inspected by me in person. This artist's has a strong record of auction sales and an active buyer/collector market. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
