Dear Michelle,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The appraised work appears to be a palette knife oil painting on canvas by the Russian-Israel artist called Leonid Afremov (1955-2019). It is signed on the lower right edge and is also signed and dated on verso. Size 20" (h) x 24" (w). This is a cityscape at night. The painting is housed in a nice wooden dark frame, and the work appears to be in good condition overall.
Leonid Afremov is a renowned artist who has worked in a very recognizable impressionist manner throughout his career. He has produced numerous paintings and prints and has been exhibited in America and internationally.
The estimation highlighted in red above is based on comparables offered and sold at auction in the last five years. The subject work’s size, the composition, condition (based on photographs and comments provided), and the artists’ current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar items available on the primary (retail) market varies and is often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
Best regards,
Karine
