LFS Grandfather Clock
11 January 2018
Description

This is an open well LFS grandfather clock that was passed down to me by my friend that has passed.

Provenance

This was my friend's father's, father's clock. On the back of the movement it has LFS and below that the number 20 that is stamped into the back plate. It looks backwards because there is a mirror there to see the markings.

What does this mean?

This is an antique tall case grandfather clock with ornate scroll carved top and turn wood finials, round brass and steel face and reticulated, pierce-cut or open scroll carved wood front pedulum door panel over stepped plinth base. The wood appears to be walnut in the images and the clock works are marked LFS. The initials stand for the German maker, Lorenz Furtwangler & Son (1836-1929) who were based in a Black Forest area of Germany. Your clock is made in the 19th century Victorian style and this case style was produced by them from 1881 - 1900. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of matches and comparables. Retail 'asking prices' may be higher and can vary.
