What does this mean?

Hi Rick,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

One website (canawineco.com - where it retails for $900 reduced from $1200) describes it as: "This artisanal mezcal showcases the unique Bicuishe agave, meticulously harvested from the wild, imparting a distinctive character. With its bright, earthy aromas of fresh herbs and citrus, it invites you into a world of complexity. On the palate, experience an exhilarating balance of smoky and sweet notes, accented by hints of floral undertones and a touch of peppery spice. The finish is smooth and lingering, leaving a warm essence that captivates the senses. Enjoy it neat or elevate your cocktails with this exceptional spirit, perfect for any occasion. Tesla Espadin Bicuishe is not just a drink; it's a celebration of tradition and craftsmanship in every sip.

If you live in one of the handful of states that BevMo! ships to, you can get it for $400 ; it hasn't come to public auction yet, at least not that I can find. The discrepancy in the price is interesting...it's not an old enough spirit to have a sense of what its long-range value will be.

Fair market values are usually about 1/3 to 1/2 what retail values are. At the low end, it would equate to $150-250 while on the very high side ($1200) it would be closer to $400-600. For the purpose of this appraisal, I'll err on the side of caution and value it optimistically with an aside comment that spirits auctioneers might not be so optimistic in their pricing if you take it to someone to sell.

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.

Delia,

Thanks for your quick, thorough and informative appraisal. My only request is some guidance on how to find potential buyers, possibly brokers who will resell. I'd like to get $325 - $500 for it, but not waiting months and months. If you are willing to provide URLs or even search categories that I can pursue to send out feelers and see if I can get a hit.
Since I only have $225 invested in this, I'm trying to squeeze out a little more profit for the non-profit that I'm supporting, the Salvation Army Trenton Citadel, who will receive any profit I am able to achieve. Thanks for your help.

Rick

Good morning, Rick,
Alcohol is one of those categories - like cars and firearms - that are quite heavily restricted and I don't know if your state (looks like NJ) is more or less flexible than Federal guidelines. An auction house that has a wine and spirits department might take this on commission to sell...but I don't know of any non-profit ones and most would probably charge a fairly high commission to do so, reducing whatever funds are raised for the Salvation Army Trenton Citadel.
Here are a few links that *might* be able to help or offer suggestions on who can (note that I have not worked with ANY of these personally so can't guarantee the service or results)
https://www.oldliquorbuyers.com/about-us (works with estates etc to buy rare vintages)
https://www.nyeandcompany.com/ - their staff are on the Antiques Roadshow (not for wine or spirits tho)
https://www.lelandlittle.com/auction/rare-spirits/158187/ (sports collectibles are really their specialty but they have a wine & spirit dept and might be worth checking with them.

Other than that, I'm not sure what else to suggest other than another charity auction where you get more of the proceeds.
Best of luck!
~ Delia
