2'x4'x5" Bavarian stone weighing around 400 pounds. One side is of lincoln one is of Washington. It was done by kurz and allision.
Acquired in a buy out before a the new York times building in Chicago was being demoed. There is a print in the northfield museum of lincoln with a story explaining that after only 12 prints the corner broke on the stone.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a broken Solnhofen shist stone with the images of Lincoln and Washington on the surfaces. The stone is part of the printing process and usually regarded to be a tool to accomplish the print and artwork. A broken stone is bad luck and that´s about it. But: Kurz and Allison lithographic prints are being collected and anything with a Washington image is accepted Americana. If you could add a liberty bell type short story to it, it would dramatically enhance the value.
The estimate is based on similar printing stones by well known artists offered or sold at auction.
