Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. Based on the photographs and description provided, the subject of this appraisal is a non-authenticated Lionel Messi jersey, bearing Messi's autograph on the jersey's back.
According to the current owner, the piece was acquired from a German collector who obtained it from a UEAFA employee. The signature matches known examples of Messi's signature, but has not been authenticated - as such the appraisal's value is conditional upon examination by a third-party authentication service such as PSA.
The current owner attributes the piece's origin to Messi wearing the piece during a Champions League game between Chelsea and FC Barcelona on April 18, 2012 in London, with the jersey traded to Frank Lampard from Chelsea and the signature acquired afterwards. Unfortunately no documentation exists to establish this chain of custody, and the appraisal value cannot thus consider the piece match-worn.
Specimens considered in establishing this value include a piece sold via Heritage Auctions on March 10, 2019 for $504 along with a piece on February 15, 2020 that sold via Heritage Auctions for $396.00. In consideration of the factors noted, a Fair Market Value (pre-auction estimate) of this piece would be estimated at $400 to $500 US.
To establish it as match-worn, the documentation considered as part of the appraisal would need to have sufficient proof of that fact. We will be able to give you an idea of the value as a signed jersey, but without documentation surrounding the piece actually being the one worn in the match, the value won't quite reflect those achieved that are definitively match-worn.
Unfortunally i don't have any documentation about this. I don't know if i can try to verify this?
