Very nice painting with artist signature , “ ABovet”, in right lower corner, also the numbers “ 4768 are penciled on back of canvas. Several cracks and scratches noted on canvas, few marks present on back, which appear to be from dirt or smudged paint. Custom frame appears to be heavy duty and that of good quality. Overall weight feels to be somewhat heavier than the average today. Frame was present when I aquired painting from estate sale near River Oaks, Houston, Tx. No history was provided.

Dear Robin,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on mansonite with 22 x 18 inches measurements. The painting depicts the study of a portrait of a man. It is signed with the name A. Bovet. Sadly no additional information for an artist with this name fitting in style and motif is given by reference books and databases. This painting was probably made in France or Belgium around 1900.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 100 to 250 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
