Seaside 2001 Monotype 75 x 107 cms Black frame
Was purchased as gift straight from dealer Flowers East in 2002
The appraised work appears to be a monotype, executed by British artist Lucy Jones (b. 1955). The work is titled 'Seaside' and depicts an abstracted landscape with gestural strokes and large areas of bold color. The artist is well-known for her expressionistic landscapes and self-portraits. She studied at Camberwell School of Art and the Royal College of Art before traveling throughout Europe. Jones is currently based in Ludlow, and primarily takes inspiration from the vistas bordering Wales, Herefordshire and Shropshire. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, medium and condition (based on photographs provided), as well as the artist's current overall auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
Hi Philip,
In answer to your question, yes, you would need to have this other monotype appraised should you wish to consign it through Mearto with the one above. If you submit information and images of this other work, I or someone else would be happy to take a look and provide an estimate. Given that you say it is from the same series, I would imagine the estimates would be comparable, but without additional information and photographs, I'm unable to say for certain. I hope this helps!
Kind regards,
Grace
Thank you Grace for your detailed appraisal. I have a second monotype (part of the same series). Being new to Mearto, would I need to get it appraised as well in order to offer it for sale? I would like to try and auction both monotypes. Best wishes, Philip
