Stamped on side one: AMES MFC CO CHICOPEE MASS, the other: Conn 1862. This sabor has a 33" curved blade, handle is 5 3/4" and is made of brass with 57 stamped on it. Grip seems to be made of leather with a twine like rope raped around it. Blade has a couple nicks .
My uncle had this in his attic.
Dear Elaine,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a Civil War U.S. M1840 artillery saber with scabbard produced by Ames in the year 1862.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 700 to 1.200 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear Elaine,
Thank you for your email. Indeed I changed the numbers. Please excuse the mistake I corrected in the estimation.

Hello, thank you for your appraisal. I have one question. You stated that is was produced by Ames in the year 1962? I'm guessing you mean 1862?
