Andy Warhol’s work. Signed print “Mao Tse Tung” 1986. Hand signed Andy Warhol in black pen.
24*21.5cm
Hello Sherry,
Thank you very much for submitting your print for an appraisal and for your patience.
The presented item appears to be a print featuring a portrait of founder of the People's Republic of China, Mao Tse Tsung, in the style of noted Pop artist, Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987). It is signed very prominently at the bottom of the composition. It measures 24 x 21.5 cm. There are no gallery labels, stickers, etc. that would indicate provenance.
The accompanying "certificate of authenticity" has not been dated and has been issued by "Art + Auction," which does not have the authority or "droit morale" to provide such documentation. It should be noted that such a company could not be found on Google and the listed address is currently an optometrist's office.
In my opinion, the artwork is most likely a forgery and based on this painting, which set a record for Western Contemporary Art sold in at auction in Asia in 2017: https://news.artnet.com/market/andy-warhol-mao-sothebys-asia-912617 Forgeries do not have any market value.
If you have any questions, I would recommend that you get in touch with our fine art authentication team by email: [email protected].
Thank you!
Kind regards,
Anne
