What does this mean?

This is a vintage, mid 20th century, season opening poster for Carmen performed by the Metropolitan Opera at the Lincoln Center in New York City that was illustrated by Marc Chagall (1887-1985). Every year an artist is appointed by the American Federation of Arts to design the Met Season opening poster. This is from 1966, the Met's inaugural year at Lincoln Center, and it is a color lithograph poster that was done in an edition of only 3000 copies and printed by Mourlot in Paris. Two large works by Chagall actually flank each side of the interior Met door entrances in Lincoln Center and they are considered a treasure to the Institution. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
