oil on plank estimate 22 inches by 20 inches signed and dated lower right M A KOEKKOEK 1862
painted in cleves germany. painting was given to my great grandmother while she was working as a private nurse for the painters brother the famous Barend Cornelis Koekkoek. the story that runs through our family is that, Marinas stole this painting from his brothers closet of unpublished works, the same year barend died in 1862. signed his own signature on then gave it to my grand mother who he was in love with. i have to admit it resembles Barends style more than it does Marinus, compare the cattle and figures in the painting to Barends.
