Was found when we moved 50 years ago. We had a trunk stored and everything in the trunk was stolen and this was put in its place.
Hello Tom,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be an embellished intaglio print after a work by British illustrator William Heysham Overend (1851 – 1898), titled "Yacht-Racing, Rounding the Buoy, Haul in the Main Sheet!" The image was published in Harper’s Weekly in September 1879 . The carved reproduction is likely on celluloid as that ground was commonly used for such works during the early to mid 20th century.
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of other comparable prints on celluloid of nautical scene, dating to the early 20th century. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
Thank you I have had that piece for quite a while and always wondered about it.
