Hi Yleana,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

Jean-François Leleu (1729-1807) was an important 18th-century Parisian cabinetmaker whose work bridges the transition from the Rococo elegance of Louis XV to the refined neoclassicism of Louis XVI. A pupil and successor to the celebrated ébéniste Jean-François Oeben, Leleu inherited prestigious royal commissions and maintained exceptional technical standards. He became a master in 1764 and supplied furniture to aristocratic and courtly clients. His work is admired for superb marquetry, restrained ornament, balanced proportions, and fine gilt-bronze mounts.

Leleu's influence was far-reaching and inspired a revival in the late 19th and early 20th Century by many makers.

JP Ehalt is a well renowned and reputable manufacturer in France. The Ehalt fine furniture company was founded in 1924 in Strasbourg by Charles Ehalt, a fine carver specializing in traditional designs of Alsace and Lorraine. In 1948, his son Jean-Pierre Ehalt stepped in to manage the business and developed designs for manufacture of furniture in the style of Louis XVI as well as Queen Anne and Georgian styles, while retaining the reputation of excellent craftsmanship.
