Dear Henry,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Upon physical inspection, this is a Maurice Utrillo (French, 1883-1955) Manner of: Montmartre, Place du Tertre. Ink, tempera, and gouache on paper. Signed lower left. There is no documents accompanying this piece.
Utrillo's most frequent subjects were buildings in the Paris neighborhood of Montmartre. He painted several views of Place du Tertre in Montmartre, where he lived. Despite having been shunned by the French artistic establishment during much of his career, he is considered one of the pioneers of The School of Paris, the pre-World War I, modern artistic movement characterized by experimentation and pluralism.
Good condition.
