This belonged to my wife's grandfather who passed away over 20 years ago and was handed down to her mother who passed away 7 years ago. It has been in our bookcase since then. The artist is Max Ernst and the label on the inside appears to be in French. It seems to be 23K gold and is .923 milligrams, maybe? The piece is labeled as copy 3/8 and piece no 1884/1478
1 7/8" long by 1 1/4" wide
Dear Andrea,
The presented object appears to be a 23-carat gold figurine made by Max Ernst with the title "Tete Ovale" in 1960/61. The piece is signed and stamped and has the edition 3/8 stamped into the inside.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 6.000 to 12.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Gregory
