Hi Jill,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. Just wanted to confirm that there aren't any labels or anything else to confirm the attribution to Baughm? I don't disagree with the attribution but if there's a label etc that's better.
Thanks
Google search links patent to "recliner chair". See snap upload. I think we may be on to something. Please advise.
Hi Jill,
Thanks very much for the additional photos, etc.
Does this actually recline? What are the dimensions?
High Point, NC has long been considered one of the busiest places for furniture manufacturing, for designers in NC and beyond. I've had a chance to do a bit more digging and MB's designs for recliner chairs all have flat arms, not the vertical arms here.
This type of furniture was very popular midcentury but I am not convinced it is an actual MB design (and because there were enough designers doing similar things, like Vladimir Kagan) so think it's safer to call this Midcentury Modern without an attribution.
Interestingly, there is one stamp on the metal undergirdings that identify North Carolina. I know Baughman worked with Thayer Coffins in NC. I've uploaded a pic if the stamp.
