Hi Charles,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Gudme Møbelfabrik was a Danish furniture manufacturer from Gudme on the island of Funen in Denmark, known for high‑quality craftsmanship and classic Scandinavian modern design, especially in the mid‑20th century.
The company began as a small furniture workshop in 1913, founded by snedkermester (master carpenter) Jørgen Møller Nielsen. After his death in 1927 the business passed through several owners. In May 1948, Johannes Alfred Jensen bought the business and expanded it into a full‑fledged furniture factory, gradually transitioning from local craftwork to export‑oriented production.
Early materials included oak and polished walnut, evolving in the late 1950s to teak and exotic woods like Rio rosewood—materials that fit the rising popularity of modern Scandinavian design during that era.
This does appear to be walnut.
Recently, similar pieces have been selling at auction in the following ranges:
Extending dining table: $1,500-2,500
Set of 6 chairs: 1,200-1,800
Adjustable wall unit: $1,000-1,500
While the combined face value of this set is $3,700-5,800, the pieces are more valuable selling as outlined above than as a unified set, which would be unlikely to sell for more than between $3,500-4,500 at auction.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
