Dear Greg Yost,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work is an early 20th century Maritime oil painting on board framed in what is most likely silver plate. It is a grey scale composition depicting a clipper ship at turbulent seas. The work is signed to the lower right, possibly reading "I. Holbrook," but the signature could not be matched to any listed artists painting in this style. From the images provided, the work appears to be in Good condition with minor discoloration to the surface and minor frame abrasions to the edges. The overall measurements were not provided, but the sight measures 4 x 3 inches.
Without an artistic attribution, the Fair Market Value will be estimated based on Maritime painting sales trends as well as the work's age and condition. Fortunately, Maritime works have a strong presence on the secondary market and unattributed works perform well in this style in comparison to those of others. The work's age and condition, as well as the silver plate frame, may have an additional effect on the value. The work's overall size may have a devaluing effect, as Maritime paintings are often large and beloved for their size and impression. Looking at recent sales trends, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $0 and $200.
Thank you for your appraisal submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
