The painting is in excellent condition. According to the signature it was painted in 1991. My Mother paid $10,000 for it in the mid-90s. It is either titled, "Cityscape" or that is the subject matter. Those are the only details that I have.
Approximately 5' x 4'
Hello Brian,
Thank you very much for submitting your item for an online appraisal and for your patience.
The presented object appears to be an oil on canvas painting, depicting an abstract cityscape with figures, which measures approximately 5 x 4 feet. The artwork looks to be in good condition and bears a monogram and date (1991) in the bottom right corner, but this unfortunately is not a match to any known artist.
The composition itself is of relatively low quality and is not characteristic of any particular artist that I'm familiar with that was active in Russia in the mid-20th century. It likely does not have a particularly high value, though supporting documentation from the gallery where it was purchased with the original price and name of the artist could prove otherwise.
Based on stylistically similar comparables available and the current market demand for such a work, I would estimate the value at around $200 to 300, though retail and asking prices may vary.
If you have any questions about my appraisal, please let me know in the comments section below. Thank you again and have a wonderful day!
Kind regards,
Anne
