From Morgan Studio, Long Beach CA. Purchased approx 1920. Oil on board, size is 26 x 9 1/2, framed 29 1/2 x 13. Signature “Morgan” is etched in the paint. In the original frame. Appears to be a small scratch near upper left corner. Otherwise looks in good condition except probably needs cleaning. Also on the back someone scratched “Three Sisters Cer...”something.
Purchased by my mother in law on a trip to California after she graduated from school in about 1918-20. Hung in her home till she passed then it was given to my husband and me.
Hi Norman,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
There are several works by Morgan Studios of Long Beach, California, that have come to market recently but none of them have identified the first name of the painter and a cross check of several artist databases of all of the artists' with the last name of Morgan working in California and Oregon don't come up with a definitive match. I have based my value comparable to what the other works by this artist/artist studio have brought at auction.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
American School, early 20th Century
"Three Sisters, Ore"
oil on board
signed "Morgan" lower center, the back with a Morgan Studios/Long Beach stamp
9 1/2 by 26 inches; framed 13 by 29 1/2 inches
CONDITION: client reports a scratch in the upper left corner and in need of a cleaning but otherwise in good condition.
PROVENANCE: inherited
$500-800*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
