Wijmer oil painting Excellent condition
24x48 in
Dear Dana Heath,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work is a Landscape oil painting on canvas. It is most likely a reproduction painting of Martin Wijmer's "Mountain Mist." There are multiple reproduction paintings of this work on the market, all falsely signed "Wijmer" to the lower right corner. Most well known is a company named "Turner" which has created reproduction paintings of this exact composition many times over. It is possible for a "Turner" label or tag to be present on the verso of this work, documentation of which has not been provided for this appraisal. Even without the presence of a Turner tag, this work is very likely a reproduction. Following Wijmer's original, it depicts a realist landscape of a mountain valley framing a lake with foggy mountain peaks in the background. This specific piece measures 24 x 48 inches. From the images provided, the work appears to be in good condition with no visual issues to note.
Very little biographical information is known about Wijmer, and the location of the true original of "Mountain Mist" is unknown as well. Wijmer reproductions appear frequently on the market, while most of them pass at auction, some reproductions have sold between $5,000 and $6,500 in the past few years. It is important to note that these reproductions are sold as "by the artist" and skew the overall value of the work. Considering the market flooding of this piece, the many existing reproductions, and the excessive passing of lots, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this painting between $200 and $500.
Thank you again for your submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
