Napoleonic era Bavarian marked KM for King Maxmillan (1806-1825)
Unknown
Dear Shawn,
Thank you for your help and patience. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a Bavarian sword following the typus Prima-Plana from the era of the Napolenic Wars with unknown measurements and without scabbard. This sword has and etched steel blade, and brass handguard and an wooden and leather grip. The pommel is decorated with an lion head and blade is etched with the monogram MJK which stands for Maximilian Joseph König (1806 - 1825). This sword was probably made for an officer of the Bavarian heavy cavalry because of the lion head decoartion and the design of the blade. It was made between 1806 and around 1820.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 400 to 800 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
