Natural pearls with matching earrings. 18.5 “ with each pearl measuring around 2.5-3.5cm
My great uncle is a gemologist who buys jewelry at estate sales, designs new pieces from them, and sells them around the country. He gave me this set about 10 years ago. I recently reached out to him to ask about them and he said they were natural pearls that have a thick nacre layering (I’m not sure what that means) I don’t want him to know I’m thinking of selling them so I have not asked for any more information.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful necklace. Such vintage pearl necklaces are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
It is a quite unusual set of baroque pearl necklace and earrings. The baroque pearls are what you would call natural pearls compared to the ones that are very similar and round in shape. These necklaces and earrings are fairly popular however the price is not quite as high as when you have the similar round pearls.
When speaking of natural pearls it is the way that they would have developed naturally whereas the circular pearls are the ones that are fabricated in certain shapes.
Still the set is very nice and I believe that it would attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online jewellery auction, where I believe the pearl set has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the lovely set. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
