Hello Patrick,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Contemporary Navajo Rug. Dating back to the period from 1970 to 1990. Navajo Rugs are the product of Navajo weaving. A Native American art made by native Navajo People. Starting from the early 20th century, traders of Navajo rugs encouraged producers to adopt the oriental geometrical kilim patterns. Originally, Navajo weavings are not made as rugs but rather as clothing and blankets, rugs are made for tourism and export since the late 19th century. Your piece was also knotted by using the geometrical motifs. It has a greyish ase with gradient design. he drak green colours were used to depict the nature, so this geometrical motif might be resembling a leaf or a tree. As usual the piece does not have a fringe, which identifies the original way of knotting in Navajo pieces. There are two borders in grey and white colours. There are symmetrical arrow decorations on both ends of the decoration which is characterized by beige and white colours. Inside of the central motif there are continuous arrows alligned in a single stripe, half lookin upwards and half looking downwards. The piece is made of local wool. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems except some loose ends at the upper right.
