Hi Luke,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The American basketball play LeBron James is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the history of the NBA. Born in 1984, he rose from a highly publicized high school career to become a global superstar, winning multiple championships and MVP awards. Beyond sports, he is culturally significant for his activism, philanthropy, and business ventures. James founded the LeBron James Family Foundation and opened a school for at-risk youth, using his platform to address education, racial inequality, and community development.
Like many sporting collectibles, there are nuances to valuations. A jersey (or other piece of apparel) worn during a championship or career-significant game will be worth more than one worn in a less important game. Both will be more appealing to collectors than a garment that hasn't been worn in a game and which was signed during a fan meet/greet. At the bottom of the valuation scale are garments that have the signature reproduced by machine or copied rather than hand-made). Further adding value is the issue of provenance: chain-of-custody and legitimate ownership.
So...without an affidavit from the person who got this from LeBron attesting to the circumstances in which this jersey was worn/given, the value will be broad, from $3,000 for an authenticated jersey (unworn) to more than $12,000 for one that's been authenticated and game worn.
It may be worth getting an affidavit from your friend and having this authenticated by a third-party authenticator service, such as PSA/DNA, JSA or Beckett. Unfortunately, authenticating this is not possible from Mearto and out of the scope of this appraisal.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
