Necklace and earrings set
02 January 2020
Description

Not sure of material. Looks like either silver or stainless steel. Has large Green stones that look like Jade along with smaller stones that look like Markosite(?). My aunt was a famous dancer in the 1930s, 40s. She had a lot of jewelry. These pieces are marked "Made in England" along with 4 other markings on back. First marking is the letters B.I., Second marking is a symbol of an anchor, Third marking is a symbol of a lion and the fourth marking is the letter "E".

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

It is a beautiful jewellery set. Such antique sets are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The design of the set is very pretty and typical of the late 19th and early 20th century. I have tried to translate your description of the marks and think it is silver from Birmingham England from either 1879 or 1904 according to the letter E and year. It could be either based on the design of the jewellery. The BI is probably the makers mark - however I have not been able to find the maker.
As for the green stones it is hard to tell from the photo - the stones that were modern and preferred by goldsmiths in this particular era were less expensive stones as jewellery should be affordable to more people than previously.
It is a lovely set and I believe that it would attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online jewellery auction, where I believe the silver set has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the lovely necklace and earrings. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you

Thank you Sabrina. I agree the sentimental value is worth more. My aunt had so much jewelry from all over the world. I was just curious. I basically found what you had found after searching online. Thank you. Happy New Year.
