Grandfather, was given this by The New American Library publishers. (The author of the novel is Theodora Keogh, granddaughter of Theodore Roosevelt)
This is a vintage, 20th century, original American illustration art painting by Stanley Zuckerberg (1919 - 1995) for a cover of a book by Theodora Keogh entitled "Street Music": A Haunting Novel of Love and Evil in Paris that was published by Signet in 1953. There is a particular collector niche for original American Illustration Art and cover art is desirable. Zuckerberg grew up in Long Beach, Long Island in New York and he attended the Pratt Institute of Fine Arts on Scholarship from 1939. He also studied under Khosrov Ajootian, William Gorham, Thomas Benrimo, and Alexander Kostellow at the Art Student's League in New York. He did numerous book covers as well as interior illustrations for magazines, military commissions and school books. He was a associate of Grand Central Art Galleries from 1965, American Watercolor Society and Society of Illustrators member. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
