I was told it is a painting from the Hudson River School. It is big! 19x36 Signed R Brown 1895. It is a picture of sheep on a trail near a river
Has been in my family's house since I was a kid. We lived in the Hudson Valley (Rhinebeck)

I've looked through the databases of listed artists (nearly 900!) and don't see anyone working in this style named Brown(e) with the first name beginning with R that I would consider a close enough match to make an attribution. Therefore, it would be most appropriately valued as:

Northeastern forested landscape depicting a shepherd with sheep near a river
oil (on canvas?), signed lower right corner "R.Brown", dated 1895
