Hi Aleksa,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
There are a few artists named Richard Shelton, but none seem to fit well with a 20th-century landscape artist whose work one might reasonably expect to find widely documented. This style of painting - small rural landscapes with streams, buildings and trees - was popularized by Bob Ross and other painters in the 1970s and 80s. I've found several comparable paintings also by Richard Shelton for sale on EBay, suggesting he may have been a decorative painter working for companies that mass produced decorative works before canvas-printing technology took over and continues to this day.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
American or English School, 20th Century
Untitled rural landscape
signed "Richard Shelton"
oil on canvas
stretcher: 12 inches tall by 16 inches wide, in a frame 18 inches high by 22 inches wide.
CONDITION: This appears to be in good condition.
PROVENANCE: Acquired on Facebook marketplace
