This appears to be a mid 19th century painting depicting a young woman carrying a sheaf of grain across a river, her daughter following her, using the rocks in the river to cross it. The painting is signed with a monogram GH oder HG or HC or similar. Unfortunately the monogram indices do not list an artist working in this style. The painting would greatly benefit from a cleaning by an expert restorer. The estimate is based on auction results for similar genre paintings by lesser known artists.
