Has a logo with a Spartan and sword through it. Very designed handle. Sea Shell engraved in handle.
All I know is that it is old and passed down through generations
Please accept our apologies for the delayed response to your inquiry, which is due to a staffing shortage that has since been resolved. Here is your online appraisal:
This sword appears to be a commissioned piece from an unknown American or European maker in the 19th century, likely for a military officer. The styling and embellishment is consistent with, but not identical to regulation swords of its time, so this piece was likely a custom order. The handle is missing the majority of its wire wrapping. The hilt is in good condition with light corrosion, but the blade is relatively worn, and most of the embellishments are no longer visible. It appears that the blade was originally blued, which was a common heat treating process to create a vibrant coloring on the blade. The blade was also most likely acid-etched. I have included a link to illustrate what these embellishments would have looked like originally. Given the condition of the piece and completed auctions of comparable items, a fair market estimate is $400-425. Thank you, and please let us know if you have any questions.
