Hi Trisha,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
From what you describe, this bear is probably stuffed with what we call "excelsior," or something like wooden shavings, rather than a cotton batting or other soft fabric filling.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique blond long mohair joined teddy bear
probably by Ideal, American, early 20th Century
With long blond mohair fur, brown glass eyes, sewn mouth and nose, jointed body stuffed with excelsior, and wool pads.
16 inches long
CONDITION: with wear, thinning to mohair and pilling to wool pads.
PROVENANCE: acquired at auction
$75-125*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
Thanks, Trisha, you're all set.
Hi Delia,
It feels very firm when I squeeze it. I wouldn't quite say crunchy but it is not soft. I do not feel a growler inside and it makes no noise so I'm assuming there is not one.
