What does this mean?

Dear Gioia,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.

The presented object appears to be a clay ram idol the measurements of approximately; 2 + 3/4 or 70 mm inches wide x 2 + 3/4 inches high. This idol depicts a ram with his horns and could be made in the Anatolian Bronze Age or Iron Age. The ram was a symbol of power and fertility.

Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in damaged condition and is a damage to the neck visible in the images.
A fair market estimation would be between 40 to 80 USD.
This estimate is based on recently recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,

George

Dear George,

Once again, I think you have it wrong.
Although there is a difference in several layers of the clay, this item 'does not appear to be damaged'
In other words, I see no evidence of 'a break' & then the item being 'glued back together'
Please reassess your findings. Please provide me details of the recent sales that you keep alluding to.

I am very active on the international auction market & I just don't see the prices that you attribute as being current & correct.
Send me some pictures, support your claim.

Very dissapointed with my dealings with you.
I intend to write a review highlighting your incompetence & claim back the money I have paid for what is 'not a professional service'

Regards,

gioia

Dear Gioia,

Thank you for your email and I am sorry you are not happy with our service. Sadly I see clearly the traces of a crack through the neck of this piece. The clay has a different color and structure. It appears to be a later addition. I contact the back office regarding the refund.
I worked for a collection of antiques from Cyprus and the Levante and later for an auction house that sold Antiques so I know the market situation.

Dear George, Yes, I see what you mean. The head is of a different material to the base & is 'cemented' together. The head seems to be made of terracotta & the base is either clay or stone? In your opinion, when is this repair likely to have taken place? In antiquity or more recently? It appears to be a solid connection & aged. In anycase, it is not 'super glued' together. My apology, just want to understand.

George Jul 26, 16:50 UTC

Dear Gioia,

Thank you for your email and my sincere apologies for the late response. Repairs at terracotta pieces are impossible to date. It is most likely that it was repaired after it was dug out to be a more attractive antique.

With kind regards,
George
