This rug was brought to the united states from Ireland in the early 19th century.
My great great great grandfather Shilling married a woman by the last name McCarthy. As far as I know, it was passed to my Grandfather. It stayed in the Shilling/Schilling family. I inherited from my Aunt in 2019. It is definitely hand woven and has a pattern I’ve never seen before. It is in great shape for how old it was. It’s worn in some places, but not horribly. The other side feels a bit sandy. No holes are in it.
